Overview

What is the NHR Computational Physics Center

The Computational Physics Center consists of three NHR centers that are especially dedicated to computational physics: 

  • the PC2 in Paderborn, 
  • the NHR@KIT in Karlsruhe, 
  • and the NHR@SW in Main/Frankfurt. 

Together these centers combine expertise from the wide field. 

The computing systems of the three NHR centers are tailored for computations in astrophysics, atomistic simulations,  condensed-matter physics, quantum chemistry, and solid-state physics in general.

Activities

The activities of the Computational Physics Center are especially focused on:

  • Organization of scientific events like symposia, workshops, and schools
  • Coordination of scientific support
  • Improving HPC system usability for researchers from the wide field of computational physics, e.g., software availability
  • Exploring new computing architectures such as analog computing, quantum computing, and others for computer physics simulations.
