At the NHR Conference, you have the opportunity to present your projects in a poster session or contributed talk and to exchange ideas with the consulting and operational teams of the NHR centers. This year`s NHR Conference is organized in cooperation with the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC2).

This event is an opportunity for all NHR employees of all centers, NHR Graduate School Fellows and those involved in NHR working groups/projects to exchange ideas and progress their projects. However, selected workshops on Wednesday morning are also open to the public.

Andreas Fink

HPC-Driven Decision Science

Andreas Fink holds the Chair of Business Administration, in particular Information Systems Engineering, at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg. His research focuses on decision analytics, particularly optimization, decentralized coordination mechanisms, and multi-agent systems in intraorganizational and interorganizational contexts, as well as related software development and analysis leveraging high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.

HPC-Driven Decision Science

Guido Schryen is Chair of Management Information Systems and Operations Research (MISOR), Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, Paderborn University. His research interests lie in quantitative methods and systems for decision support in business environments. He focuses on the algorithmic parallelization of combinatorial and mixed-integer linear problems, as well as the computational parallelization in HPC environments.

Herbert Dawid is professor for Economic Theory and Computational Economics at Bielefeld University. Before joining Bielefeld University he hIn his work he uses large scale agent-based simulation models to study processes and economic implications of technological change as well as the effects of economic policy and regulatory measures. His recent research focusses in particular on the effects of the use of machine learning algorihtms on markets and on economic aspects of the diffusion of smart products. Herbert Dawid has coordinated several EU-funded projects on related issues and was president of the Society for Computational Economics from 2020-2022.

Advances in Atomistic Simulations

Felix Höfling is a Professor at the Institute of Mathematics at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. His research focuses on dynamic phenomena that emerge in complex fluids and soft matter, typically covering many scales in length and time. He is passionate about high-precision computer simulations using cutting-edge technology, which he combines with mathematical analyses of stochastic particle models. Felix studied physics at the University of Heidelberg. In 2006, he received his PhD with distinction from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. After postdocs in Munich and Oxford, he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart as a research associate before he was appointed at Freie Universität in 2015. Currently, he is also serving as the Node Director of the CECAM node DE-MMS in Berlin/Erlangen/Paderborn.

Advances in Atomistic Simulations

Martin Brehm holds a professorship for Theoretical Chemistry at Universität Paderborn. He is using atomistic simulation – using both ab initio and force field methods – to investigate condensed phase systems, often strongly associated liquids and mixtures. Research questions often include structure and dynamics, but also detecting microheterogeneity, modelling self organization, and better understanding entropic effects in the liquid phase. He is developing methods to predict vibrational spectra of liquids and to predict the selectivity of organic reactions under full solvent influence, among others. As a contributor to large program packages such as ORCA and CP2k, he is also active in developing software.

Advances in Atomistic Simulations

Petra Imhof is Professor for Computational Chemistry at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen Nürnberg. Her research group aims at understanding biochemical and biophysical processes at a molecular level, in atomic details. To this end, her group employs a broad range of molecular simulation methods, from first principles, combined QM/MM approaches, and classical, force field based, molecular dynamics simulations. Furthermore, her group is working on methods that allow simulations of complex molecular systems to be tailored in an efficient manner. They also develop new ways to analyze the simulation data so as to get better insight into the interplay between structure, function, and dynamics in e.g. protein-substrate recognition, enzymatic catalysis, or solute-solvent interactions.

Low and Mixed-Precision Computing

Harald Köstler works at the Department of Computer Science at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and is also member of the Erlangen National High Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU). His research interests are Performance and Software Engineering for High Performance Computing and Data Analytics. The group works on open source HPC software like the multiphysics simulation framework waLBerla with a focus on code generation technology for current and future HPC systems.
