The NHR Alliance at a Glance
The NHR Alliance bundles the resources and expertise of university high-performance computing and provides them free of charge to scientists at German universities. Beyond computing resources, it supports users through consulting and training in high-performance computing. Its services are broadly diversified and available nationwide.
Our Team and our Mission
The National High-Performance Computing Association (NHR Association) consists of a coordinated network (NHR Alliance) of Level 2 high-performance computing centers (NHR Centers).
The association is funded by the federal and state governments. It's objectives are set out in § 11 of the implementation agreement to the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz | GWK) agreement on the joint funding of research buildings, large-scale equipment, and national high-performance computing at universities.
The establishment and operation of the network of NHR centers is intended to promote their supra-regional, sustainable, and resource-efficient use in the service of science.
The central objectives of the funding are:
- the comprehensive and needs-based provision of high-performance computing capacities for scientific research at universities,
- the promotion of cross-location and interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation in a joint coordination structure that is open for use throughout Germany,
- the strengthening of users' methodological skills, the promotion of young scientists, and training and further education in scientific computing,
- the promotion and further development of scientific computing.
